Hot button issue… the Village of Palmetto Bay has a zoning public hearing on Tuesday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m. on a topic that has aroused strong feelings on both sides in the community. Location of this hearing is Christ Fellowship Church, 8900 SW 168 Street, Palmetto Bay, and “discussion and public input will be welcome concerning the following item which may be of interest to your immediate neighborhood.”

The item is Palmer Trinity Private School, Inc., which is located at 7900 SW 176th Street and 8001 SW 184th Street in the village, and a resolution of the mayor and council relating to zoning in the wake of a decision of the 11th Judicial Circuit after court action in February regarding a special exception and a site plan modification on the property. Court costs and legal fees have already impacted the village budget and may continue to, but whatever your views on this issue, if it interests you then you may want to attend this hearing for a chance to have your voice heard, or perhaps just to see what’s going on.

Don’t forget Palmetto Bay Day at the Deering Estate on July 16, if you don’t want to miss out on free admission, tours of the property and houses and an opportunity to see ‘the best view in South Dade.’ Deering held this event last year and it was a great success that brought out many residents. The Deering Estate is a real gem in the community and this is a great chance to visit it. And if you’ve never been there, you really should see it. Deering is located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue. For more info visit www.deeringestate. com/ or call 305-235-1668.

Changing the Charter… The Village of Palmetto Bay Charter Commission will meet on Monday, July 25, at 6:00 p.m. This will take place on the 2nd floor of the library in the Edward & Arlene Feller Community Room, located at Ludovici Park, 17641 Old Cutler Road. For more information, call Village Hall at 305-259-1234.

New website for the village! Taking advantage of the July 4th weekend, village staffers made the changeover from the “old” village website to the brand new one, which looks a bit different but kinda nice. By the time you read this they will have probably gotten any kinks out that may have resulted from the changeover. Check it out—it’s still the same web address:
