The second annual Health and Wellness Fair, scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 10, in Palmetto Bay, will feature something new — a talent show called “Boomers Got Talent.”

Mary Fernandez, village events coordinator, explained how the entertainment contest for seniors will work.

“The talent show is for folks 55 and up,” Fernandez said. “It’s an open competition, so you can sing, dance, play musical instruments, do a juggling act or something else. It will be interesting to see what kind of variety acts we’re going to get. We are limiting the entries on this, so it will be on a first come, first sign-up basis. The deadline for entering is Jan. 25.”

The Health and Wellness Fair takes place from noon to 5 p.m. at Ludovici Park, 17641 Old Cutler Rd., and will feature a variety of health-related participants offering free demos, brochures and giveaways. The talent show will be on the stage of the amphitheater. The event itself is free, as are many of the services offered.

“I got confirmation that the Miami- Dade College Medical Campus will be participating and they will be offering free health screenings,” Fernandez said. “Other members of the health and wellness community are being invited to participate.

“When we talk about health and wellness it’s very encompassing. It can include diet and exercise, preventative medicine and lifestyle. We’ve created a broad umbrella for many vendors and partners to come and be a part of this fair.”

Beside the blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, cholesterol and body mass index (BMI) screenings, there will be information on health education in general and other things of interest.

“There’ll probably be free chair massages, like last year,” Fernandez said. “We are also extending an invitation to our local assisted living facilities, nursing homes and senior centers to participate and give out information to those interested.”

There will be food vendors selling a variety of things for people who want to make a day of the fair and get something to eat while they’re onsite.

Fernandez said that free booth space is available for health and wellness related vendors. Space is limited, so anyone interested should contact her right away.
