Snow will fall on this year’s ‘Holiday by the Bay’ event

The fourth annual Holiday by the Bay presented by South Motors BMW takes place on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Ludovici Park, 17641 Old Cutler Rd.

“This year there are free pictures with Santa,” said Mary S. Fernandez, the village’s Special Events Supervisor. “In years past, it was like the mall where people would pay for the photos with Santa, but this time the pictures will be free. But the biggest thing this year is that we’re going to create snow flurries at 6 p.m. It will look magical.”

In addition to Santa and a historic snowfall in Palmetto Bay, the holiday event will have the usual free unlimited carnival rides, free musical concerts and food for purchase from various vendors.

“We’ve already reached out to area schools and churches and other groups that perform,” Fernandez said. “For the first time ever here, Ballet in the Park will perform The Nutcracker. The library will participate and Christ Fellowship Church will set up arts and crafts tables.”

There will be a marketplace for holiday decorations and gift items, and vendors interested in participating are still invited to contact event staff. Residents driving there won’t find any problem with parking, according to Fernandez.

“There’ll be free parking in the north lot of the Palmetto Bay Village Center, adjacent to Ludovici Park,” she said. “We certainly thank them as always for being so gracious.”

This year the primary sponsor, covering much of the costs of the event that’s free to residents, is area auto merchant South Motors BMW.

“They’re great about being involved in the community,” Fernandez said. “They do a lot, and we appreciate their help.”

As Rick Lujan, vice president of finance for South Motors explained, “South Motors BMW is pleased to be the presenting sponsor of the fourth annual Holiday by the Bay. We are committed to supporting this wonderful community yearlong, but the holidays are truly a special time to give back.”

“It really is a great community event for families and schools and all of our residents,” Fernandez said. “I’m so appreciative to have the kind of community support that we have. That’s what makes our events so good.”
