Westminster Christian student winner in National Geographic photo contest

Westminster Christian School junior Ian Poveda won the People’s Choice Award in the 2016 National Geographic Student Photo Contest. His photo, Look Up!, was the clear winner with more than 25 percent of the vote. Poveda was one of 24 finalists whose photos was chosen from more than 2,000 images submitted. The students were challenged to submit photos that conveyed what exploration and adventure meant to them. Poveda’s photo, taken while on a family vacation, depicts a steamy afternoon in downtown Boston as children played in Ring Fountain on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Each photo was accompanied by a 100-word essay. He is president of the junior class at WCS, as well as founder the school’s photography club.
