Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Miller Center on the UM Campus: Matthew Levitt, director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, speaks about his book, Hezbollah: The Global Footprint of Lebanon’s Party of God, examining Hezbollah’s beginnings, its first violent forays into Lebanon, and its terrorist activities around the globe.
Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Temple Beth Or: Meet Marc Tyler Nobleman who speaks about Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman, an intriguing and comprehensive biography of writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, the Jewish teens who dreamed up the world’s first superhero in 1933.
Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Alper JCC: Shemi Zarhin, acclaimed Israeli director and screenwriter, is interviewed by a journalist from The Jewish Forward. In his new novel, Some Day, Zahrin mixes passion and fantasy to create an emotional family saga using a quirky and loveable cast of characters. Then enjoy his film The World is Funny, which was nominated for a record 15 Ophirs (Israeli Oscars).
Monday, Oct. 28, at Bet Breira Samu-El Or Olom at 7:30 p.m.: Calling all book clubs! In The Golem and the Jinni, Helene Wecker creates an immigrant tale that combines elements of Jewish and Arab folk mythology in which two supernatural creatures from clashing cultures arrive separately in New York in 1899 and come to rely upon one another. An Amazon Best Book of the Month and featured in The New York Times Sunday Book Review. In Tomorrow There Will Be Apricots Jessica Soffer weaves together the lives of two very different women adrift in New York, a compelling story about accepting the families we’re given and the families we make.
Friday, Oct. 25, 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. at the Alper JCC: Our annual Holocaust Workshop for public and private school teachers of grades 3-12 is led by Dr. Miriam Klein Kassenoff and Dr. Cheyenne Martin, professor of Nurse Ethicist, University of Texas.
Tuesday, Oct. 29, 7:30 p.m. at Young Israel of Kendall: Dr. Allan Lichtman speaks about FDR and the Jews, addressing the debate over whether FDR turned his back on the Jews of Hitler’s Europe.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 7:30 p.m. at Bet Shira Congregation: Join us for Rabbi Marc Schneier and Imam Shamsi Ali, co-authors of Sons of Abraham: A Candid Conversation about the Issues That Divide and Unite Jews and Muslims. Despite anti-Muslim and anti- Semitic prejudices they were exposed to in their youth, these two men forged a lasting friendship after 9/11 and share a vision of how Jews and Muslims can find common ground.
