The 2016 Chevrolet Suburban SUV.

The 2016 Chevrolet Suburban is a massive SUV with plenty to offer other than just its size. This year, the Suburban comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen as well as a new optional package, the Driver Alert package. Chevy has capitalized on what people love most about its suburban, emphasizing comfort and plenty of room.

For many, the Suburban’s appeal is in its size. Capable of towing up to 8,300 pounds when properly equipped and able to comfortably seat eight people (although an optional front bench allows it to seat nine) in its three rows, the Suburban is a dream for large families and outdoorsy types. Which is no surprise, considering the Suburban is an impressive 220 inches long and is now roomier than before. And for those big families it has more luggage space than in previous models, which can be expanded by folding down the third row. Additionally, the Suburban has lots of handy compartments for small items such as notebooks and a plethora of cup-holders.

When you consider its massive size, the Suburban has a decent fuel-economy of 16mpg city and 23 mpg highway. Chevy has managed this by fitting the Suburban with standard cylinder deactivation and direct injection in its V-8 engine and its electric power steering. The 5.3-liter engine puts out 355 horsepower and 338 pound-feet of torque. While you may expect the Suburban to be very cumbersome, you’d be surprised to find that steering it feels effortless and the ride is smooth thanks to its standard leaf-spring rear suspension design. Chevrolet has ensured that you, your many passengers and cargo can get to your destination and also has included a new suspension option.

The suspension for the 2016 Suburban can be changed for the Magnetic Ride Control, which is available on the LTZ trim. The Suburban comes in three trim levels: LS, LT, and LTZ. We test-drove the LTZ which includes 20-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, power-folding mirrors, heated seats and steering wheel, hands-free opening for the liftgate, wireless cell phone charger, rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring as well as the standard features such as parking sensors, rear privacy glass and Apple CarPlay for the 8-inch display. Other possible additions for the Suburban include a sunroof, built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi and entertainment systems such as a DVD player. Additionally, there are several packages to build onto the LTZ trim including the Entertainment, Destinations, Max Trailering and Sun package. Chevy ensures a high level of customizability and comfort with the 2016 Suburban.

The 2016 Chevy Suburban has accomplished a great feat in that despite its massive size, the Suburban boasts a respectable fuel-economy and a very manageable ride. This makes for a perfect large family car and can even be fitted with an extra seat for a total of nine passengers. With additional packages and technologies such as a DVD entertainment system and the Destinations package, Chevrolet has made sure the 2016 Suburban can fit the needs and wants of any family.

The MSRP for the 2016 Suburban starts at $49,700.
