Now this is my kind of Cadillac. If you’re looking for the ultimate American super sedan, the Cadillac CTS-V has few peers.

The CTS-V is the midsize rear-drive performance flagship sedan in Cadillac’s lineup. Offering more room than the ATS-V, the CTS-V is uncompromised in its performance capabilities but still offers luxurious amenities.

Between the power of its supercharged V8 and the control of its ultra-sophisticated suspension, this is a luxury sedan that can keep pace with some of the world’s fastest sports cars.

On the long list of what’s new for 2017, this Cadillac CTS-V offers new tech including a rear camera mirror that uses a high definition screen to show what’s approaching if you’ve got back-seat passengers blocking rear visibility. It also offers a teen driver system that tracks a driver’s speed, distance traveled, and whether any safety systems were activated.

This year’s optional Carbon Black package, which I was fortunate enough to test drive, will suit drivers seeking a more sinister, sportier look. And definitely turned heads everywhere I went, for an additional $6,950, with its black molding around the windows, dark wheels, and an optional carbon fiber spoiler and splitter.

And when you settled into the 16-way Recaro high-performance seats — another option that turns heads inside the cabin — you’re in for a helluva ride, too. Rounding of the list of new 2017 features, there also is a 13-speaker Bose Surround Sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a wireless charging station. Behind the steering wheel, there’s a 12.3-inch instrument panel cluster.

I also got my hands on all the irresistible features packed into the Luxury Package, which, for just an additional $2,000 gave me cool gadgetry like tri-zone climate control, power sunshades, 110V power outlet, rear-split folding seat, and the rear camera mirror. This car also offers options like a performance-data recorder ($1,600) and an ultra view sunroof ($1,450).

All told, the $16,000 in options added to the base fee brought this baby in at just over $103,000.

This was the original V in Cadillac’s modern high-performance V-Series. The latest version of the CTS-V is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 creates 640 hp and 630 pound-feet that can launch this sedan from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds — and 100 mph just 3.9 seconds later. An eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel allows for quick, easy shifting.

The steering is accurate yet hefty, while the ride is surprisingly civilized thanks to a magnetorheological suspension.

On the safety front, the CTS-V received a four-star overall safety rating (out of possible five stars) from the NHTSA. And regarding gas mileage, well… let’s face it, with ratings of 14 mpg in the city and 21 highway, consumers looking for a super-charged looking Cadillac are not looking for economy.

Just drive it and love it. The sharply styled CTS-V almost always has a little more power ready when needed. In fact, Cadillac claims a top speed of 200 mph and I won’t argue. This is a super sedan in every sense. And while it might not offer some of the luxury accoutrements as many of its European competition do, it out-muscles them all day long.
