Cadillac XT5

The Cadillac XT5 is a new five-seat crossover for the 2017 model year, replacing the outgoing Cadillac SRX.

The new crossover has some of the best safety ratings in the class with a very attractive interior featuring supportive seats and good cargo capacity compared to its rivals.

While the XT5’s rear seats should have enough legroom for most, tall folk may find it a little lacking. However, this can be easily remedied with the XT5’s standard sliding and reclining rear seats, which allow you to adjust the seat as you see fit.

Also standard, is the upscale leatherette upholstery. Cadillac offers a leather package for upgrading that comes in several color options.

Other features such as ventilated seats are also available which come in particularly handy for the summer months in South Florida.

As for the XT5’s tech features you’ll find the following in the Platinum AWD package like the one we test drove: ultraview sunroof with power sunshade, universal home remote, a hands-free power and programmable lift gate, Cue information and media control with navigation, AM/FM stereo with 8-inch diagonal display, Apple Carplay capability, ventilated front seats and Bose surround sound.

In comparison to the SRX, the XT5 offers more interior space and features. The XT5 also boasts a significantly lighter construction than the SRX. With less weight, the XT5 has a noticeably better ride, consumes less fuel and accelerates more quickly. Its light weight helps this crossover take on turns nimbly. The driving experience is improved by bigger, better-placed side mirrors, which aid visibility.

The XT5 is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 and has a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The XT5, as previously mentioned, also offers good cargo space. With the rear row up, it has 30 cubic feet of cargo room, fold them down, and the cargo space more than doubles yielding 63 cubic feet. Pretty good for a road trip with the family.

Its safety features, which include forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist with lane departure warning and parking assist, has led to the XT5’s stellar safety ratings. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the XT5 earns a fuve-star overall crash test rating. Other safety features provided by the XT5 are surround vision, side blind spot zone alert, lane change alert and rear cross traffic alert.

The all-new XT5 is Cadillac’s new SRX, but better. The 2017 Cadillac XT5 provides several great features, an attractive elegant interior and great safety ratings. The XT5 is lighter than the outgoing SRX, making it more fuel efficient and a much smoother ride. The XT5 also provides great, supportive seating and convenient adjustable rear seats. For families on the go, the XT5 is a great luxury option.

The MSRP for the 2017 Cadillac XT5 Platinum AWD is $62,895.
