Library & Media Center offers movies, authors, lectures, music and more

The Beth Am Library is celebrating the fifth anniversary of weekly scheduled programs in the Adult Reading Room. We are delighted to announce that our Sunday Salon and afternoon Israeli Movie Club have resumed after a nice summer break.

Every Sunday that the campus is open for Religious School, folks gather in our library at 10 a.m. for some special presentation: A captivating movie, an author visit, a lecture or discussion, a musical treat, wonderful camaraderie, plus good reading material served with bagels and coffee.

On Sept. 21, we’ll be laughing along with author and radio host Scott Greenberg as he navigates us through the aging process with his book Oh My God, I’m Getting Older and So Is My Mom. The following Sunday, we’ll welcome former Dade County Schools principal Mona Goldstein as she leads us on a journey from the founding of the State of Israel to the present with her latest novel, Hope for the Holy Land. Our movie this month, Zaytoun, will be shown on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m.

We have a history of hosting some pretty impressive presenters in the past and we intend to maintain our mission to provide entertainment and enrichment to our patrons. We’ll continue to host Dr. Marsha Cohen, who always brings something stimulating to her Israeli Current Events lectures; and Helene Yentis, founder of the Palm Beach Center for Jewish Art, will return with an amazing exhibit of the Hebrew Zodiac. Maggie Anton, the awardwinning author of the historical fiction series Rashi’s Daughters, will join us later in the year.

In addition to our regular fare, we’ll add new genealogy programs introduced to us by the president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Miami, Genie Milgrom. Milgrom’s own story, told in her memoir My 15 Grandmothers, is nothing short of astounding.

Our library continues to blossom into something new and exciting in congruence with today’s myriad informational demands. We serve the community at large, as well as our own congregation, and look forward to greeting newcomers and welcoming back our regular attendees. If you are not on our mailing list, just drop by and let us know you’re interested. Come check us out!

Helene Yents always presents interesting lectures. The audience enjoys them and learns much, adding to their Jewish identification.
