Volunteers gather at the Miami-Dade Fair Expo Center for the Feed My Starving Children event.

Walton Lantaff Schroeder & Carson, a local law firm in the Dadeland area, participated in the Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack event in January as part of their commitment to community service projects. The event took place at the Miami-Dade Fair Expo Center from January 26-31. The Fair Expo Center donated use of its facility to the South Florida Community Mobile pack event.

Walton Lantaff which celebrated its 80th year anniversary in 2014 has a special connection to the Youth Fair itself, when a prior partner, George Orr, served as the President of the Youth Fair for many years. Members of the local Walton Lantaff office volunteered their time and labor to the event. Some lawyers carried rice and soy bins to tables all night which was very labor intensive. Others worked at the meal packing table in an assembly line putting the food ingredients into bags which are then sealed and boxed up. The sealed meal packets are distributed to distribution partners of Feed My Starving Children who then ship the meals to Third World Countries. FMSA meals have been sent to nearly 70 different countries.

Allison Hartnett, Office Manager and Senior Partner, organized the event for Walton Lantaff’s local Miami office. She learned of the event through the local Girl Scouts organization.

“This was such a rewarding event for our employees to participate together in a local county wide worthy event,” said Allison Hartnett. “The entire massive production taken on by this organization out at the Fair Expo Center was really amazing to see and be a part of for our staff, lawyers and employees.”

The law firm’s Fort Lauderdale office will probably participate in the Mobile Pack in April. This is a very rewarding experience that any local business can engage in with participation by family members and children over the age of five.
