Markus brothers join Basketball League as new commissioners

Registration for the Beth Am Basketball League is open and there are some big changes. Jeff and David Markus will join Michael Williams as cocommissioners.

The Markus brothers will oversee the boys’ and girls’ divisions. They have played basketball in the League from when they were in the third grade and continued to play through high school. They have been active coaches and individual division commissioners for several years.

Over the past four decades, the Beth Am Basketball League has grown to become a fixture of South Florida youth basketball, and the Markus brothers and Williams say they are eager to continue the tradition of excellence.

The League is making renovations on the outdoor basketball court. The updates will be complete in time for the fall season and will include complete resurfacing and new state-of-the-art backboards and nets.

Beth Am Basketball is a recreational league for boys in 4th-9th grade and girls in 4th-8th grade run by volunteer coaches and commissioners. The League places emphasis on fun competition, team play and sportsmanship. During the 2014-15 season, over 1,000 young boys and girls developed their basketball skills and made lasting memories both on and off the court.

THE LEAGUE IS COMPRISED OF FOUR DIVISIONS:
• Rookie Boys & Girls (4th and 5th graders),
• Junior Boys (6th and 7th graders),
• Junior Girls (6th, 7th and 8th graders) and
• Senior Boys (8th and 9th graders). Coaches select players in a draft and help build skills on both team and individual bases. Players must attend the evaluations to get drafted onto a team and are required to attend at least one practice and one game per week throughout the season.

Enrollment is available through an online registration system and is on a first come, first serve basis.
