Nu Deco Ensemble at Deering Estate November 22

Nu Deco Ensemble, a Miami-based 21st-Century chamber orchestra that presents live, genre-bending orchestral music, is performing at the historic Deering Estate on Sunday, November 22. The concert, titled Water Music, begins at 5 p.m. (gates open at 4 p.m.)

This performance marks Concert Two of Nu Deco Ensemble’s collaborative and exciting inaugural season. Water Music will feature Nu Deco Ensemble’s eclectic and signature style, which explores re-imaginings of Bach and Bizet, as well as iconic American composer Aaron Copland. Further works include the music of Andy Akiho, LCD Sound System, co-founder Sam Hyken, and French-pop duo Daft Punk.

“We are delighted to be partnering with the Deering Estate and performing our signature music in such a beautiful setting which celebrates arts, culture and community,” says Sam Hyken, who, along with international conductor and Homestead native Jacomo Bairos, is the co-founder and artistic director of Nu Deco Ensemble. “This perfect backdrop gives us the privilege and honor to share our music, art, and love for our community with so many who live in the southern areas of Miami-Dade County. We are simply thrilled to continue our inaugural season in collaboration with the Deering Estate.”

Jennifer Tisthammer, Director of the Deering Estate, said they are pleased to welcome Nu Deco Ensemble to their dynamic cultural arts programming season.

“We want to help infuse our community with excellent performance art, provide a creative space and venue for seasoned artists and new talent to thrive,” said Tisthamme. “To open the doors wide to the community and allow them to experience Nu Deco first hand, we have donated 1,000 admission tickets to local and underserved arts communities so that young artists and their families can attend and enjoy without price being a barrier.”

Nu Deco Ensemble, a recipient of a 2014 Knight Arts Challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, is a 21st century vehicle for expression in art, classically trained South Florida musicians striving to provide leadership in genre-bending musical exploration while creating new hybrids of musical expression.

Sam Hyken has had a diverse and successful musical career spanning the globe. He is on the faculty at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, a performer (trumpeter), producer, arranger, and composer. Co-founder Jacomo Bairos is an international conductor who regularly works with some of country’s top orchestras including the National, St. Louis, Atlanta, and San Diego Symphonies. He is also the music director of the Amarillo Symphony in Texas.
