Pinecrest Police launch subscriber-based notification services for residents

The Pinecrest Police Department has launched two subscriber-based services to keep residents informed about community alerts and area crime.

pinecrest police badgeNixle is a publishing system that sends targeted messages to subscribers in specific geographic regions from area police departments. Pinecrest residents can go to <www.nixle.com> and, using their zip code, can choose to receive alerts via text message or email. Examples of the types of alerts the police department may send out are requests to be on the lookout for a car that may have been involved in a hitand- run accident or the description of a missing child.

For general area crime information, residents should go to <www.crimemapping.com> and click on the “Sign Up” button at the top of the screen. The application will allow the subscriber to choose how much or how little crime information to receive via email based on zip code, area radius and type of crime. It also will give the subscriber an option to receive sex offender notifications.

Both services are subscriber based and users must register to receive community alerts and area crime information.
