East Kendall Relay for Life around the Baptist Hospital Lake this year raised almost $300,000 for the American Cancer Society.

More than 5,000 people participated in The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of East Kendall on March 15 in a fun-filled survivors’ celebration and relay-style walk around the Baptist Hospital lake.

Baptist Health Medical Group primary care physicians provided free cholesterol screenings and 271 cancer survivors were honored as guests. About 6,000 personalized and decorated luminaries were lit to remember those lost to cancer and honor those fighting the disease.

The event raised almost $300,000 for the Society’s research, education and patient services.  It was the ninth consecutive year that Baptist Hospital has hosted the event.

“Many thanks to our Relay committee members, volunteers, physicians, employees and their families and friends who participated in the event and worked so hard throughout the year to raise funds,” said Bo Boulenger, Baptist Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer.
