DeNito’s Ride for Kids
Palmetto Bay recently honored Anthony DeNito, RE/MAX Advance Realtor and founder of DeNito’s Ride for Kids, at Village Hall. In chambers, they surrounded Joshua Jean Joseph and his custom built bike, complete with special seat belt, gears, handlebars and pedals with straps. The bike was donated free to Joshua, thanks to Fred Viener, who heard about Joshua and the cause and simply wrote a blank check to make the bike happen.
Anthony is an avid bicycle rider and a few years back he fell in love with the idea of helping physically challenged kids to ride.
“I love the power and freedom of cycling and I want to share it with everyone,” explained DeNito. “When I see someone who can’t ride, I try to find a way to enable them.”
DeNito has given away several bikes so far, and there are many more to come.
So, early on October 15, the 4th Annual DeNito’s Ride for Kids will take place to raise money for this worthy cause. The ride will run from Pinecrest through Homestead, with 35 or 65-mile routes available to participants.
You can participate in the event by going to denitosrideforkids.com and registering. The ride, dubbed “Miles of Smiles,” includes well-stocked rest stops, breakfast, lunch and a bunch of goodies.
UMSHoF Celebrity Golf Tourney
It’s all about The U, as Greg Mark, a 1989 All American defensive end, serves as the celebrity host for the 24th Annual UM Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Tournament to benefit the Hurricane Club.
“It is such a great honor to be the host of this year’s University of Miami Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Tournament,” said Greg Mark. “Throughout my time as a player and coach at The U, I have had the tremendous fortune of being around so many great coaches, teammates, support staff, administrators and players. The University has given me so much that it is with little hesitation, great honor and pride that I am able to be a part of this wonderful event. I look forward to seeing everyone out there teeing them high and letting them fly.”
The event is scheduled for Friday, October 7 at the luxurious Biltmore Hotel and Golf Course in Coral Gables. It kicks off with registration and lunch at 11 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. An awards dinner featuring live and silent auctions will follow.
UMSHoF President Gerard Loisel boasts, “This event has been sold out for the past two years and we’re excited to once again give Hurricane fans an opportunity to not only support the UM Sports Hall of Fame, but also provide scholarships for future Hall of Famers while playing golf with Hurricane greats.”
Corporate teams of four golfers (includes tee sign and novelties) are available for $1500, while regular teams of four golfers are $1200. Sponsorships are available. Call Executive Director John Routh at the UM Sports Hall of Fame at 305-284-2775 to inquire about your company becoming a sponsor.
Palmetto Bay Citizens Organize Town Hall
Cynthia Demos, former CBS4 anchor/reporter, will moderate an evening of discussion at the “Citizens-Led Town Hall for a Better Palmetto Bay.” A group of five concerned residents formed a Board of Citizens and invited Mayor Eugene Flinn, Vice Mayor John DuBois, District 1 Councilmember Karyn Cunningham, District 2 Councilmember Tim Schaffer, District 3 Councilmember Larissa Siegel-Lara, Erica Watts (running for Vice Mayor), David Zisman (running for Vice Mayor) David Singer (running for District 2 Councilmember), Village Manager Ed Silva, Village Attorney Dexter Lehtinen and Village Police Commander Major Gadyaces Serralta to participate.
The event will focus on major topics facing Palmetto Bay, including traffic, parks, the potential development of the Palmetto Bay Village Center and what’s going on with Downtown development and the topic of annexation. The event is currently scheduled for October 5 at 6:30 p.m., at the Palm Room at Palmetto Bay Village Center.
We believe that direct conversation with our Village leaders (and potential leaders) is healthy to keeping our community strong and healthy. We look forward to seeing lots of people come out and getting informed.
