Dr. Mario A. Almeida recently moved his practice to the City of South Miami. An Internist and a specialist in Nephrology, Dr. Almeida combines the latest technological advancements with sound, old-fashioned individualized patient care.

“I’ll be your doctor in the hospital or at home. The patient gets value medicine with strong values,” said Dr. Almeida.

Dr. Almeida recently relocated his office to One 7000 Place in South Miami’s hospital district on SW 62nd Avenue. In practice since 1988, the doctor focuses on diseases and disorders of the kidneys and conditions that have an impact on renal function.

Voted as one of South Florida’s “Top 10 Doctors” by visitors to Vitals, an online resource for patients to find and connect with doctor, and holder of the Patients’ Choice Award and Compassionate Doctor certificate, Dr. Almeida’s combination of expertise and consideration for his patients makes for a winning combination.

“I bring a high level practice with a lot of new, updated medical technologies,” said Dr. Almeida.

One of those technologies is the use of handheld ultrasound at Dr. Almeida’s office. Ultrasound uses sound waves to image the organs of the body without the use of radiation. Since each organ has its own pattern of echoes, disease may be indicated when an abnormal pattern of echoes results. Handheld ultrasound can provide a less-expensive and immediate evaluation of a patient’s condition. The handheld is suitable for large vessel vascular/ venous access, pleural and abdominal fluid drainage guidance, liver biopsy guidance, and bladder aspiration.

Dr. Almeida treats acute renal failure, anemia, chronic kidney diseases, diabetes, kidney disorders (failure, stones, polycystic disease), end-stage renal disease, glomerulonephritis, renal hypertension, and lupus erythematosus, among other conditions.

Dr. Almeida performs dialysis, EKG, kidney dialysis, peritoneal dialysis procedures, and renal transplants.

Dr. Almeida is a graduate of the University of Miami and the Universidad Central Del Este, Facultad de Medicina, Dominican Republic (1983). He served his internship (1984) and residency (1986) at Woodhull Medical Center, Medical Health Center, NY (1984) and his residency. His Fellowship was performed at the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, NY (1988). He is affiliated with the Doctors’ Hospital and South Miami Hospital, Inc.

The future of Dr. Almeida’s practice includes hiring additional medical doctors, Nurse Practitioners and Physician’s Assistants.

“The goal will be to expand the offhours and weekend patient care,” said Dr. Almeida.

His move to One 7000 Place will allow Dr. Almeida to expand his patient services.

Cira Almeida, the doctor’s wife and office manager said of the move, “Wayne found this wonderful space for us.” Dr. Almeida’s office is located at 7000 SW62 Avenue in South Miami, Suite 605. The office is opened 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Contact the office at 305- 218-1133.
