It’s the most wonderful time of the year for SoMi Fitness owners William Del Sol and Unni Green as they start collecting gifts for the children at Mt. Olive Missionary Church in South Miami.
This is the sixth year for the “SoMi Fitness Toy Drive” featuring youngsters selecting their own gift while treated to live music, a bounce house and hamburgers and hot dogs.
The festivities begin at noon on Sat., Dec. 19 at the church, 6316 SW 59 Pl. where the annual celebration continues to delight neighborhood youth and their parents. City Commissioner Joshua Liebman plans to attend to assist in the holiday event along with other volunteer Santa helpers.
“We welcome unwrapped new toys for children of all ages, including teenagers and those gifts can be dropped off at SoMi Fitness located at 6855 SW 81 St.,” said Del Sol.
“Should someone want to provide funds to purchase toys for the event, that would be great, too and, of course, a receipt will be given to them,” he added.
A special bonus this year offers a specialized class by Cedric Ferguson, “Hooked Fitness,” a boxing course designed to keep both body and mind in shape for the season. Participation is as easy as donating toy of value as the equivalent to a class fee.
SoMi Fitness also offers community service hours for all high school students who can participate in the Toy Drive by helping paint the church.
SoMi Fitness at 6855 SW 81 St. is located just off of US1 and SW 67 Ave.
