SoMi Fitness begins annual toy drive

Children and families at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church enjoyed the toys the SoMi Fitness team collected and donated last year.

William Del Sol and Unni Greene, certified personal trainers and owners of SoMi Fitness, have kicked off their annual holiday toy drive. This is the fourth year the SoMi team has partnered with South Miami businesses and residents to collect toys and donate them to the children of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in South Miami.

New toys for children of all ages, including teens, or a $10 donation will be collected throughout November and December at the SoMi Fitness, located at 6855 SW 81 St., each Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. Boca Tanning of South Miami has teamed up with SoMi Fitness again this year and will have a toy collection box at their business on Sunset Drive, making it easy for customers and friends to drop off toy donations

Del Sol and Greene, who offer personal training, boot camps, group classes and nutritional counseling at SoMi Fitness, invite any South Miami business to join them in this effort.

“Anyone can get involved by helping collect toys or donations, or by making a donation,” said Del Sol. “We also invite everyone to go with us when we shop for toys with the money collected, and when we visit the church to present the toys to the children.”

The group of “Santa’s helpers” will visit Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, located at 6316 SW 59 Place, the week before Christmas to celebrate the season.

“Each year, the children and their parents have enjoyed the toys and food, all graciously donated by the community,” said Del Sol. “The joy on the children’s faces when they are able to select the toy of their choice from a mountain of toys is priceless. We would like everyone in South Miami to participate and share the joy of the season by giving back to our community.” Shuntee Stukes of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church said the group’s generosity helps children who are less fortunate enjoy the spirit of the season.

“Willie also helps out at our summer camps, so when the holiday season comes around, everyone at the church looks forward to seeing him and his staff again,” said Stukes. “The children, their parents and grandparents are so thankful for what they do. They may be a small business, but their contribution to this community is very big.”
