‘Safe ‘n Scary’ Halloween annual delight for all

By Suzell Rodriguez….
The annual “Safe Streets Halloween” event was held in South Miami October 31 with streets were closed off from SW 58th Avenue to Red Road in front of the Shops at Sunset Place.

Local businesses and community members were on hand to share in the holiday fun and most importantly, give out lots of candy.

Trick-or-treaters dressed in their cool costumes were joined by many moms and dads, toddlers in their strollers and puppies on leashes, all sporting creative Halloween get-ups to create a holiday spirit for everyone who came to South Miami for the festivities.

Mercedes Garcia and Hermina Herrera of Aurum Collections said they have only been open for a month but already “love the community” and “are anxious to serve residents” — and serve they did with handfuls of candy giveaways.

Arthur Infeld whose daughters dressed as Ariel from Disney’s “Little Mermaid” and Little Red Riding Hood, said “I love that they do this event. It’s not the same as the mall or trick or treating in the streets and having to deal with traffic.”

Attending smallfry of all ages clearly loved the event, too, carrying pumpkinshaped candy buckets that were continuously filled (and refilled!). A bounce house, mini-haunted house, arts and crafts table and photo shoot opportunities with Nintendo’s Mario and Luigi, Dora the Explorer and Diego added to the fun.

Said Alex and Chantal Murias who brought daughter, Gabrielle, dressed as an “adorable” witch, and five-month-old Nicolas, as a skeleton: “We love this event. “It’s bigger than any other citysponsored event and yet not so packed.

“We’ll definitely be back again.”
