Advertising campaign promotes SoMi businesses, Shops at Sunset Place

Twenty businesses are participating in the “It’s SoMi” campaign to help drive business during the holiday season and beyond. The unique style of this co-op program allows each merchant to feature its cuisine, product or service on the sides of buses, bus shelters, the Pinecrest Tribune, INDULDGE Magazine’s Art Basel issue, somi Magazine, direct mail pieces, Metrorail cards, and even a billboard.

“South Miami is home to some of the finest locally owned businesses in Miami-Dade County and this is the first time we are presenting ourselves together as a community. Everyone is excited about the opportunity,” said Amy Livergood Donner, president of the RSMA.

The lineup of participants includes: Three Fold Café, Dog From Ipanema, Old Lisbon, Edward Beiner (Purveyor of Fine Eyewear), Buffalo Wild Wings, Rok Bgr, Giancarlo Jewelers, Il Vaporetto, South Miami Jewelers, Splitsville Lanes, LA Fitness, Earth, Lanes, Teixeira, Razzle Dazzle, Green Monkey Yoga, Area Stage Theatre, Station 5, and Margaux Interiors.

This multi-dimensional campaign will feature all the personality and offerings of merchants who call the Downtown South Miami “home.”

Alex Schreer, vice president of marketing for Grass River Management and The Shops at Sunset Place, stated, “The RSMA approached us with this opportunity and we did not hesitate at the chance to participate in such a robust advertising program, but more importantly to support our neighboring businesses. The Shops at Sunset Place recently unveiled plans for redevelopment of the property that will further revitalize the neighborhood. This ad program is just the start of many new and exciting things coming to South Miami.”

The RSMA sought out Primecard, an innovative advertising and marketing company, to execute this program because they have the unique ability to allow merchants to participate on a trade basis — in exchange for their products or services. If it’s a restaurant, like Old Lisbon, they pay in food. A retailer like Ed Beiner or Splitsville pays with their products and services. These merchants are mostly independent operators and many could not afford participate otherwise.

“We have worked with Primecard for a number of years and are pleased to continue to be part of this innovative program with the South Miami initiative. Primecard is a win-win for the merchant and consumer,” said Danielle Zanzuri of the Edward Beiner Group.

“We are very happy in joining the new owners of Sunset Place in promoting our business area,” said Jarbas Godoy of The Dog from Ipanema.

The campaign, commencing mid-November and running through February, will highlight the individual businesses as well as South Miami (SoMi) as a community.
