picArea Stage Company is proud to announce its Conservatory’s 5th year anniversary with the theatrical performance of Stephen Sondheim’s hit Broadway adaptation of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” directed by multiple Carbonell Award winner John Rodaz. Area Stage Company is a professional non-profit organization and is a favorite local destination to experience inspiring and commanding performances of refreshing new American theater talent and play.

“Sweeney Todd”’ is a dark and humorous musical, parental discretion is advised. If this were a movie, it would be PG-13. The play runs August 1st thru August 16th, 2014 for seven performances.

The infamous Victorian tale chronicles the return of the unjustly exiled barber Sweeney Todd to 19th century London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The operetta written by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler chronicles Todd’s road to revenge which leads him to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up, and the carnage has only just begun! Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is an exciting version of the acclaimed Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim. Directed by John Rodaz and Richard Kaydas as Musical Director.
