District 7 – Coconut Grove Gibson Plaza Job Fair Update

Xavier L. Suarez, Miami-Dade County Commissioner – District 7

Some great news already coming out of the West Grove, since our groundbreaking ceremony for the historic Gibson Plaza affordable housing project. As a follow-up, on Wednesday, May 7th, 2014, the Collaborative Development Corporation, in conjunction with Pinnacle Housing Group, held a Construction Job Fair for various positions at the Frankie Rolle Service Center, to help ramp up and staff the Gibson Plaza project, as construction gets underway. A number of area subcontractors partnered with Pinnacle Housing, and were in attendance, interviewing for positions in the following categories: Electrical, Air Conditioning, General Labor, Roofing, Plumbing, Concrete, etc. Over 130 applicants turned out to interview for upcoming positions, most of them from the local West Grove community, as well as the City of South Miami!

The following subcontractor companies attended in partnership with CDC and Pinnacle to interview and hire the candidates:
A-1 Property Services, Gillette Construction Services, Infinite Windows, AGC Quality Construction, Morlic Engineering, AKO Plumbing, Designed Electrical Solutions, Pacesetter Personnel, South Florida A/C & Refrigeration.

Thanks to Charles Byrd and J.S. Rashid from the Collaborative, as well as the entire staff of Pinnacle Housing Group for making this event possible and following through on a commitment to the community. This is a great example of a neighborhood project employing people from the community – very important for urban renewal, on a lot of fronts!
