Free playwright reading scheduled Apr. 10 at Deering Estate at Cutler

Lost Girls Theatre Company co-artistic directors Andie Arthur and Katherine Siegel present Glassheart by Reina Hardy at the Deering Estate at Cutler, 16701 SW 72 Ave., on Friday, Apr. 10, at 8 p.m.

The reading presented by Lost Girls Theatre’s Getting Lost Reading Series is the opening event for the Deering Estate Festival of the Arts which is open free to the public. Note that the playwright reading may contain mature subject matter.

On a mission to recreate a sense of wonder, Lost Girls Theatre focuses on highly visual storytelling that addresses modern concerns through the lens of classical themes and pop culture. They strive to bring the excitement of unique and original theatrical performances to audiences both young and young at heart.

Beauty never showed up. After centuries under the curse, the Beast and his one remaining magical servant have moved into a shabby apartment near a 7- 11, hoping for a lower cost of living and better luck with girls. Their building manager, a fellow immigrant with a taste for gingerbread and children, offers help in navigating this threatening, impossible, completely mundane world, but all her gifts come with a price.

When an eligible maiden moves into the second floor apartment, the servant (a relentlessly cheery lamp) colludes with the landlady to kidnap the girl. The servant finds herself assimilating the girl’s identity, her name, and bookstore job. As she becomes increasingly human, and the Beast becomes increasingly lost, she discovers what — and who — must be sacrificed for an ordinary life.

Additional playwright reading is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 8 p.m. — A Girl’s Guide to Saving the Universe by Andie Arthur.
