Halloween is just around the corner and for those fun loving people into costumes, there will be lots a great opportunities to show off you creations. In fact, one big event you will not want to miss will draw approximately 8,000 people. Yes, it is the 2010 Miami Dade Heart Walk, to be held the morning of October 30, at Florida International University, 11200 SW 8th St. Join the fun, bring your children, and sign up for a great cause at www.miamidadeheartwalk.org.

Speaking of fun, the Coral Gables/ South Miami Elks Club seems to have ramped up activities with everything from spectacular Magic Shows to their most recent evening of Country Dancing. Chef Bleu and member John Anderson prepared ribs, chicken, burgers and lounge food for the hungry crowd and the affair helped raise funds for new carpet in the game room. It was a huge success according to Annie Goodrich who also credits the many volunteers. Elena Cohan, a newer member handled decorations while Chris Cohan picked up the Hay bales to complete the look for this themed evening of fun. Among the others who helped with the night were Alice Fernandez and Maria Ibanez.

The Advertising Federation of Greater Miami held its monthly get together recently at Maitardi in the design district downtown with guest presenter, Jennifer Vandekreet, Director of Advertising for Carnival Cruise Line. Large fans strategically placed in this lovely outdoor patio bar setting provided a pleasant place for socializing before and after an entertaining program.

Much of the discussion that evening revolved around the AdFed’s upcoming Battle of the Bands to be held on November 10. Those AdFed members wishing to participate must submit a video of their group jamming and/ or lip synching by October 17. Then, people will be able to go online to vote for their favorite group from October 20 -28. The top three vote getters will go head to head on November 10th. For more information visit www.aafmiami.com/battleofthebands. You only need one AdFed member in your band to participate. This should be good time.

Finally, Gables Rotarians joined forces with the Coral Gables High School Interact Club and the International Studies students to participate in a Coastal Clean up on September 25. Among the many helping out that day were Ross Johnson, Eddie Alsina, John Wallace, Club P resident Sally Baumgartner, Deena Bell Llewellyn, and Philip Rassfeld (Rotary Youth Exchange student from Germany).

Until next time, keep making each day count.
