On the heels of President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress, the American Civil Liberties Union will be hosting The Resistance Training: An ACLU Town Hall to empower individuals to protect their constitutional rights. The event, which will be held at the University of Miami on Saturday, March 11, will feature PeoplePower.org, a new grassroots mobilization platform launched by the ACLU last week.

Immediately after yesterday’s address to a joint session of Congress, ACLU National Political Director Faiz Shakir, who is expected to speak at the event in Miami, stated: “Tonight, we heard more empty pablum from President Trump, completely divorced from the reality of harm he has inflicted on America’s most vulnerable communities. Trump’s speech did not address the grave human impact of his bankrupt policies, among them Sara Yarjani and Hameed Darweesh, ACLU clients affected by his discriminatory Muslim ban who were in attendance tonight.” (Full statement available here: https://www.aclu.org/news/aclu-statement-trumps-first-congressional-address-1.)

During its first month in office, the Trump Administration has issued a series of policy directives that infringe on the rights of some of America’s most vulnerable communities, such as a Muslim travel ban; immigration raids that trample due process; and the rescinding of protections for transgender children. The Resistance Training: An ACLU Town Hall will feature ACLU experts covering everything citizens need to know about their rights as protesters. The ACLU will also provide an update on its ongoing fight to resist President Trump’s unconstitutional policies.
