To celebrate 60 years of banking excellence, First National Bank of South Miami is hosting a free Family Block Party, Saturday, April 28, 4-10 p.m., on 57th Court, between 73rd and 74th Street. Because the locally owned and operated bank has been serving the Miami community since 1952, the neighborhood celebration, entitled Rock Around the Clock, will have a 1950s theme.
“We’ve been here for 60 years and we value the relationships we’ve built here,” said Veronica Birch Flores, executive vice president of First National Bank of South Miami. “Our employees are our family and our clients are our extended family. We are so excited to celebrate this milestone with our family members and our community.”
Volunteers from the First National Bank of South Miami will be dressed in their 50’s finest as Sergeant Henry Guzman of the South Miami Police Department sings the national anthem to kick off the event.
Children will enjoy a coloring station and can win prizes when they play old fashioned carnival games such as ring toss, sledge hammer and the money vault. Car buffs will take a trip back in time as they wander through the more than 20 vintage cars that will be on display.
The event will include performances by performing arts students from Gulliver Schools, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy and Riviera Schools. Students from Mile High Karate and Fun Camps will also take center stage to demonstrate their talents to the community.
“We have been dedicated to supporting the local community, so it’s important that this celebration include our local businesses and organizations,” Flores said.
South Miami restaurants Khoury’s Mediterranean, OMG Burgers, Sports Grill and Hot Cookies will be on-hand. To raise money for their respective organizations, Chamber South will be selling water and soda, and the Red Sunset Merchants Association will be offering beer and wine for sale.
At 7 o’clock, it will be time to rock as the local band People You Know hit the stage. The band’s members are veterans of Miami’s 70’s-80’s rock scene and have a reputation for getting the crowd out of their seats and dancing on the tables.
