Spooktacular ‘Red Ribbon Doors’

By Lee Stephens…

1st place: Ms. Ruiz and Ms. Machado: Drug Free Pirates

Somerset Somi Academy in South Miami recently had their “Red Ribbon Week” Door Contest. The Red Ribbon Week is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Schools and kids make a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon.

This is the second year for SoMi participating in this event. Principal Kim Guilarte – Gil noted that all the kids participated and with the help of some very creative parents managed to create some amazing doors complete with sound effects, handwritten messages by the kids, pictures, and other cool 3D effects.

Chamber South’s President, Mary Scott Russell, came out to view the doors and help with the selection. “The doors were amazing, I have been involved in the Say No Messagefor many years and these are by far the most creative I have seen yet.” All the doors were great. It was hard to choose the winners.

This year’s winning doors were:
