Bugs Up Miami! It’s that time again. The 2014 lobster mini season is right around the corner. Are you ready to compete for the prestigious title: 2014 Spiny Lobster KING? Don your nets and tickle sticks for the 2014 Miami
Bugging Spiny Lobster Tournament. The event begins Friday, July 25 with the captains meeting 5 pm at Sunset Tavern in South Miami. Participants meet to learn all about the contest and mini- season in general.
This year mini-season opens Wednesday, July 30 at 12:01 am, and runs through Tursday, July 31 at 11:59 pm. After that, Friday, Aug. 1 at 5 pm bring your catch to Sunset Tavern in South Miami for the weigh-in. The event promises to be a blast. Participants, their friends and families will enjoy the regular happy hour prices and menu in addition to live music, hermit crab races, raffle drawings, and more. Are you a lobster lover? Come hungry! Lobstermania… lobster fritters, cracked lobster, lobster quesadillas, lobster bisque, and even lobster pizza will all be added to the menu.
Sponsored by Deli Lane Café and Sunset Tavern in South Miami, this year’s competition has a few new twists: There is a $50 cash prize for the lightest legal lobster. You can also submit your best 2014 mini-season photo to the Miami Spiny Lobster Photo Contest. Guests attending the weigh in party will vote to determine the first $100, and second $50 place photos. There is a $10 fee per photo submitted. As in years past there are two divisions: adults and kids. Calling all lady divers, young and younger. We have never had a Lobster Queen. This is your chance to make history.
Profits from this exciting event will benefit Stiltsville. The organization offers opportunities for youth groups and others to learn about preserving Biscayne Bay and Biscayne National Park while enjoying the beauty of both spending time at Stiltsville.
