Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project visits SIB

By Stephanie Dethomas….

On Saturday, July 31st, Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, City Commissioners Roslyn Brezin, Gerry Goodman and George “Bud” Scholl along with volunteers, residents, beach enthusiasts and representatives from Barefoot Wine participated in the Beach Rescue Project at Samson Oceanfront Park.

According to Derek Epps with Barefoot Wine, “The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, now in its fourth year, is an effort to make beaches and lakes across America “barefoot friendly.” The Beach Rescue Project held events across Florida this summer and decided to make a stop in Sunny Isles Beach. Volunteers received a free bottled water, beach rescue t-shirt listing all Florida clean up sites and clean up supplies. More than 14 large garbage bags of debris and trash were picked up along the beaches and grassy areas.

Following the cleanup, volunteers aged 21 and over attended an after party celebration featuring Barefoot Wine & Bubbly and appetizers at the Newport Beachdide Hotel and Resort.

If you would like to volunteer your time and efforts to keep our beaches clean, please contact Pelican Park Community Center at 305-792-1706 and register for future beach clean up efforts.
