During the course of the year, the staff at NSE SIB K8 enjoy celebrating the success of our students. We conduct quarterly honor roll assemblies that honor academic success; we recognize students on the morning announcements and we include names of contest winners in our weekly staff and parent newsletter. I also try to share these special awards with the community through this article. But today I want to write about a special honor bestowed on one of our teachers.
Ms. Rosa Rabinovich, our middle school music teacher, has been nominated for the Grammy’s Music Educator Award. The Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation received more than 7,000 initial nominations. This week they announced the 222 music teachers from 208 cities who qualify as quarter finalists for this award and we are so proud that Ms. Rabinovich is one of them. Ms. Rabinovich is an accomplished musician and outstanding teacher who has twice been nominated as the Teacher of the Year – once from NSE SIB K8 and once from her former school.
Ms. Rabinovich has an impressive resume. She is a violinist and pianist, a graduate of the Havana National Schools of the Arts and the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory with a Master in Fine Arts. She performs as a soloist and is an orchestra musician, Miami Dade Public School teacher for 21 years and a string coach with the South Florida Youth Symphony.
The Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators (K – college, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. A joint partnership and presentation of The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation, this special award will be presented at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony (honoring recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award and Technical GRAMMY® Award) during GRAMMYWeek 2015.
We anxiously await further announcements from the Academy but in our school Ms. Rabinovich is already a winner. Her strings group perform regularly at the school and throughout the county and have been recognized for their high level of performance. Congratulations to Ms. Rabinovich and her students.
