Maintaining A World Class City’s Property:Robert Williamson
ROBERT WILLIAMSON

Robert Williamson is the City’s Public Works Maintenance Foreman. He is responsible for scheduling and tracking to completion a wide variety of projects in Sunny Isles Beach. Rob and his crew of nine Maintenance Workers are the sometimes seen, but many times behind-thescenes employees who keep the City running. Together, they handle a variety of items from building maintenance, to street cleaning, sidewalk repair, drainage maintenance, construction on City property, and improvements regarding City physical structures.

If you are fortunate to speak with Rob, you would find that he’s an easy going guy, who is serious about his work, and with a bit of an accent leftover from his native land. He was born in Dublin, Ireland and received his schooling and technical certification there, including a five year apprenticeship in mechanics. He married and began a family; then in 1987 decided to emigrate from Ireland to America for an employment opportunity.

Rob’s early career path enabled him to pick up experience in several different fields of study, including: motor mechanics, auto body work and auto painting. He also had his hand in construction work; so when his children began to fly the nest, he redirected his full time career to construction and maintenance. Rob gained valuable experience in two other maintenance positions in the private sector previous to coming to the City. He joined the City’s Public Works Department in 2006 and by 2008, he became supervisor of the Maintenance Division. Residents of the City have benefited greatly from his wide range of experience which he brought to the job.

Examples of projects that Rob and his team have worked on include: constructing a new public works office, building additional lifeguard towers, painting the decorative street lights, installing new street signs, repairing sidewalks throughout the City and painting the crosswalks on Collins Avenue every 4 months. Most recently he supervised the completion of the Intracoastal Parks, the beautiful, new series of parks at 16100 Collins Avenue. For all his hard work on behalf of the City, Rob earned the distinction as Employee of the Quarter in May this year.

Give Rob and his team a wave as you see them around the City working to keep our area in “world class” condition. When he is not toiling on your behalf, he prefers to relax with a good movie or to play a round of golf. And of course, he spends many enjoyable hours with that family that began in Ireland and has now grown to include nine beautiful grandchildren!
