New year, new events in the City of Sunny Isles Beach

January is “Jan-packed” with programs and events around Sunny Isles Beach

With a brand new year comes a new lineup of programs and events happening in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. This New Year, make a resolution to spend time with family, friends and neighbors while enjoying music, dancing and entertainment around the City.

This weekend marks the first Family Movie Night of the year featuring the hilarious animated film, “The Secret Life of Pets.” Find out what your pets are doing when you’re not home on Friday, Jan. 5 at Heritage Park, 19200 Collins Ave., or Saturday, Jan. 6 at Town Center Park, 17200 Collins Ave. The free movie starts promptly at 7:30 p.m., but bring your little ones early for pre-show activities and crafts beginning at 7 p.m.

For the City’s more nostalgic residents, enjoy classic movie, “The Shop Around the Corner,” starring Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart next week on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Travel back to the 1940s with this timeless romantic comedy from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Pelican Community Park, 18115 North Bay Road. The movie is free with a valid SIB Resident ID Card and $5 without.

Later this month, lounge under the stars while rocking out to Viva Classic Rock at 2018’s first Sunny Serenade on Wednesday, Jan. 17. This free outdoor concert series takes place at Samson Oceanfront Park, 17425 Collins Ave., from 7:30 – 9 p.m.

“We recently reinstated our monthly Wednesday outdoor concert series at Samson Oceanfront Park,” says Sunny Isles Beach Mayor, George “Bud” Scholl. “This helped round out a wide range of monthly events at all our key signature parks across Sunny Isles Beach.”

If you are looking for a fun weekend activity, start your engines and make your way to the Classic Car Show at Heritage Park on Saturday, Jan. 20. From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., view some of South Florida’s best show cars, enjoy a beautiful afternoon with friends and family, and a farmers market.

Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in America, and with your credit affecting your ability to get insurance, interest rates and even potential employment, understanding how to protect yourself is vital. Reserve your spot for the Identity Protection 101 seminar on Friday, Jan. 26 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Pelican Community Park. The seminar is free with a valid SIB Resident ID Card and $5 without.

Spend the last Sunday of the month with family and friends by taking a dance lesson or learning new painting techniques at the City’s newest program, Wiggle and Paint. Join this dual class on Sunday, Jan. 28 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and learn how to salsa, merengue and mambo or learn beginner and advanced painting skills. Both classes are free to join, but registration is required. Walk-ups are allowed, however, painting materials are only guaranteed for those who pre-register. Guests can register at Pelican Community Park or the SIB Government Center.
