SIB Wins Championship in Soccer

By Matt High….
The City of Sunny Isles Beach, Cultural and Human Services Department; Athletics Division sponsors an Adult Soccer League. A tournament is hosted in the fall and spring of each year. The last tournament began in September and ended in December with playoffs the last two weekends. All games are played at Senator Gwen Margolis Park on Sundays from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Last season, we had a record high of 14 teams competing for the coveted trophy.

The championship game was played on Sunday, December 19, 2010 between our own Sunny Isles Beach soccer team versus Veni Q’ Te Explico. It was an exciting game to watch as each team played their hearts out to win. The first half score ended tied 1-1. In the second half, the game got physical with each team scoring a quick goal to make it 2- 2. Close to the end of the game, SIB scored a goal giving them victory. Anyone who watches soccer, could appreciate the valiant efforts of each team. The SIB soccer team won the game with a score of 3-2. Christian, Nacho, and Leo were the members of the team that scored the goals.

Congratulations to all teams and players that were involved in the fall soccer league. We look forward to the next season and defending our championship. The spring tournament starts in February and ends in May. We also have a 3 versus 3 tournament on February 19th and 20th, 2011.
