Sunny Isles Beach K-8 does it again and with a new name

By Annette Weissman….
Its official! On Wednesday, June 15th, the Miami-Dade County School Board officially changed the name of our school to Norman S. Edelcup/Sunny Isles Beach K-8. This is a well deserved honor for the Mayor and everyone affiliated with the school will continue to work diligently to bring honor to the Mayor, the school and the community.

First among those honors is the fact that N.S.E. Sunny Isles Beach K-8 has again earned an “A” grade from the state. This is the third consecutive year that we are an “A” School and I am so proud of the teachers and children for this outstanding record. We are known throughout the county for our commitment to high academic standards.

This drive for excellence was evident at our first 8th Grade Promotion Exercises held earlier this month. It was an emotional evening for all of us as we reminisced about the history of the school. Many of the eighth grade students were members of the first sixth grade class that entered three short years ago and we are already saying good bye and good luck! How quickly the years went, how dear the students became to us! We wish all the students the very best as they move on to high school.

And there is still one more honor I would like to share with you. Throughout the year I have had the pleasure of sharing with you the many accomplishments of our students, teachers, PTSA and Student Government. Today I would like to recognize Dr. Benny and Marta Rub, the SIB K- 8 Family of the Year. The Rubs have been active participants in many aspects of the school since but are especially involved with the creation of the K-Kids and the Builder’s Club at our school. They attend every event from Dads and Donuts to Honor Roll Assemblies to weekend math bowls, musicals, and charity events. We look forward to their continued involvement in our school and their continued commitment to our future leaders.

As another whirlwind year comes to a close, my staff and I are already planning for next year. I would like to remind everyone about our summer reading program and the importance of maintaining your child’s reading and mathematics skills over the school recess. Please log onto our website http://sib.dadeschools.net for details. You can also find information there about our uniform policies. The school office is open all summer for new registrations (8:30am-11:00), for report card pick-ups, and for all your administrative needs. Wishing you all a safe and relaxing summer.
