The City of Sunny Isles Beach Launches 2010-2011 Four Seasons Cultural Series with Kemal Gekic Piano Concert

Under the direction of the Cultural and Human Services Department, The City of Sunny Isles Beach is proud to announce its 2010-2011 Four Seasons Cultural Series. This dynamic series is brought to the City of Sunny Isles Beach and with the commitment to make the classical arts accessible to all ages.

This City’s Season Kick-Off concert will feature Florida International University’s Artist in Residence Kemal Gekic from 7:30 to 9:00 pm, on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. The cost is $10 for residents of Sunny Isles Beach and $20 for non-residents. The event is sponsored in part by TD Bank.

The Winter Four Seasons program will feature the FIU Latin Jazz Band. It will be held from 7:30 to 9:00 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2011. The ticket cost is $10 per resident of $20 for non-residents. In addition, there will be an early dinner service offered to concert goers for an additional cost of $15 per person. The dinner will be served at 5:30 pm.

The Spring Four Seasons program will feature the Dance of the Flamenco starring Clarita. It will be held from 7:30 to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. The ticket cost is $10 per resident of $20 for non-residents.

On Wednesday, August 10, 2011, the Four Seasons Summer Concert Strings program will be held from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. The ticket cost is $10 per resident of $20 for non-residents.

Residents can purchase the season package for $30 per person or $60 for non-residents. Tickets may be purchased in-person at the City of Sunny Isles Beach Government Center Visitor Center located at 18070 Collins Avenue or Pelican Community Park located at 18115 North Bay Road.

For the November 17th Season Opener, Kemal Gekic’s program will be a bicentennial celebration of Chopin. Since 1985 he has had extensive concert activity throughout Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, South America, Africa, USSR, Middle East and Far East. His performances have been broadcast by RAJ Italy, TV Portugal, TV Yugoslavia, NHK Japan, POLTEL Poland, Egyptian TV, NDR Germany, RTV USSR, PBS USA and CBS Canada.

As a recording artist, Kemal Gekic has won accolades in Europe, America and Japan for insightful and original views of the music of Handel, Mozart, Chapin, Scriabin and Liszt. His outstanding Naxos CD of RossiniLiszt Transcriptions has won ‘The Rosette’ of the Penguin Guide for music, while his JVC CD of Liszt’s Twelve Transcendental Etudes is generally considered to the best recording of the set in history.

Born in Split, Croatia, Kemal Gekic lives in the United States and continues to perform worldwide.

The piano concert and all Four Seasons concerts will take place at Sunny Isles Beach K-8 Community School, 201 182nd Drive, Sunny Isles Beach. Parking will be available in the Sunny Isles Beach Community School parking garage, along 181st Drive, and in the Government Center parking lot.
