The Four Seasons Cultural Series and Winter Fest coming upThe City of Sunny Isles Beach is excited to announce the next installment of our Four Seasons Cultural Series, with the Florida International University Opera on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 7:30 pm. The students of the FIU Opera Workshop will perform a concert of popular opera arias and ensembles by composers such as Mozart and Kurt Weill.

The students will celebrate the 200th birthday of Giuseppe Verdi, with selections from La Traviata, Ernani, Rigoletto, MacBeth, and Falstaff. Other composers represented on the program will include Bizet, Offenbach, Cilea, and Puccini. The concert will conclude with selections from the ‘Broadway’ operas of Kurt Weill, including Happy End, Lost in the Stars, and The Firebrand of Florence. Following the performance, take time to meet the stars of the show over a light snack on the patio.

This event is FREE for Resident ID Card Holders and $5.00 for all others and is scheduled at 7:30 pm at the Norman S. Edelcup SIB K-8 (201 – 182 Drive). The City’s annual Winter Fest celebration will be held at Heritage Park (19200 Collins Avenue) from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Saturday, December 7, 2013. As the Mayor throws the switch to light up the park, the holiday season gets underway with activities including photos with Kris Kringle, rides, crafts, and ice skating.

Entrance and parking for the event are free. Wristbands for rides and ice skating are free with SIB Resident ID Card, $2 all others. It’s sure to be a glorious celebration for both residents and visitors of all ages. Special Awards will be presented to select Sunny Isles Beach sports team members and the cheerleading squad will show off the routines learned this fall.If your stomach starts to growl, visit one of the vender booths with food for sale.

Ice skating only, will also be open on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 12:00 – 4:00 pm for a special rate: $2 with SIB Resident ID Card, $4 all others. Saturday wristbands will be good for Sunday ice skating.

If you want to leave the driving to us, take the Special Event Shuttle Bus to and from the park. Otherwise there is free parking under the William Lehman Causeway and handicap parking in the parking garage at the park.
