With schools closed for several days in the wake of Hurricane Irma, parents were invited to bring the kids out to “Downtown Doral Gives Back,” a family-friendly storm-relief fundraiser, Sept. 13-15.

Free and open to the public, the event benefited The Miami Foundation’s Hurricane Relief Fund, which is helping local organizations drive recovery efforts throughout the region following Irma’s wrath on Sept. 9.

The fundraiser event included a live DJ, bounce houses, basketball hoops, giveaways, and more. It was billed as a great way for children “suffering” from Irma-induced cabin fever to get out, stretch their legs, and play. The well timed event also provide parents with a much-needed distraction from the stress of the storm.

During the fundraiser event, visitors also took an opportunity to enjoy bites at Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar, Bulla Gastrobar, Dragonfly Izakaya & Fish Market, and Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine, as well as ice cream at Freddo, and leafy greens and more at Giardino’s Gourmet Salads. Most if not all of these establishments were open and fully operating by that time at The Shops at Downtown Doral.

Residents in need a pick-me up were also invited to stop for coffee at Pasion del Cielo or grab their favorite alcoholic beverage at MEGA Premium Wine & Spirits. And those without internet also were able to purchase a mobile hotspot at the AT&T store in Downtown Doral.
