Spotlight on Senior: Happy 100th Birthday!

At 100 years old, Mrs. Helen Bredl is the oldest senior in our West Park Senior Program. Helen was born October 29, 1916 and raised in Pennsylvania by both of her parents. She graduated from high school in 1934 and married in 1935. She was married for 71 years until the passing of her husband in 2006. Helen is the mother of two, and her daughter, Joan Horton, is an active member in our Senior Program. Helen has 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She retired as a waitress from corporate offices in Pennsylvania and worked post retirement for 11 years at Denny’s Restaurant. She loves to spend time with her family, cook, play games, maintain gardens, make root beer, and participate in our senior activities. She enjoyed her participation in the Carrick’s Mother’s Club in Pennsylvania.

Helen loves to share stories about her childhood years and her life growing up. She recently moved to West Park in 2016 to be closer to her daughter, Joan. She loves living here and jokes that she can do without the intense sunrays beaming on her face during her outings. Helen expressed that she is thrilled with witnessing the way the world has evolved during her lifetime. When asked about her feelings on becoming a centenarian she shared that she never really worried about age and that she doesn’t feel any different from when she turned 60 years old.

Helen was asked about her secret to living to 100 years old, and she answered “moderation”. We are honored to have Helen as a participant in our program and congratulate her on this milestone birthday!!!
