After a full day of head-to-head Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) battles, Christian Roque of Cutler Bay took first place in the Senior Division at the 2014-15 Pokémon City Championships in Miami.
Along with the coveted title and City Championship trophy, Roque earned valuable Championship Points that count toward a potential invitation to compete at the 2015 Pokémon World Championships. In addition, players that achieve a top Championship Points ranking after the 2015 Spring Regional Championships in May will earn Travel Awards to compete at the 2015 Pokémon U.S. National Championships in Indianapolis during the summer.
“The Pokémon City Championships provide a great opportunity for both new and more experienced players to compete together in a game they really enjoy,” said J.C. Smith, director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokémon Company International.
“We’re excited to continue watching these local players as they battle throughout the season, including at the upcoming Pokémon State and Winter Regional Championships, and perhaps making it to the 2015 Pokémon World Championships.”
Smith added that the Pokémon City Championships are special because they are a great way for new players participating in premiere events for the first time to compete alongside more experienced players in a game they really enjoy.
Organized Play events are sanctioned by The Pokémon Company International and locally managed by Premier Tournament Organizers who run hundreds of Pokémon TCG and video game tournaments every year throughout North America.
Collectively they oversee tens of thousands of Pokémon competitors who train and compete at various local league events and sanctioned tournaments on their quest to become a Pokémon World Champion.
Players of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate in Organized Play events that guarantee competitors the opportunity to play in multiple rounds, no matter what their win-loss record.
