As she writes in her artist’s statement, award-winning multi-media artist Paula Turk’s mission is “to capture and express the fragility of life in its most unrestricted form,” and that applies to the various art mediums she uses to express herself.
A well-known metal sculptor, Paula is also recognized for her photography as well as her drawings and paintings. “I work in these disparate media because I enjoy what each one offers. The immediacy of photography, for instance, allows me to capture a mood and moment that is spontaneous, while metal work is a deliberate process of thought and construction. Drawing and painting are sort of in between the first two, requiring the making of choices once the image and composition have been finalized. Working in each of these disciplines means I am never, ever bored.”
Paula’s work has been extensively exhibited and sold throughout South Florida at such important venues as ArtCenter/South Florida, Miami Beach Festival of the Arts, ArtMiami, the historic Airport Hangar during Art Basel, the Broward Art Guild, ArtServe and many other galleries throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
As an Artist-in-Residence at the CANDO Arts Co-Op in Miami Beach, Paula was the winner of the People’s Choice Award for “Art of Chair Exhibit.” She was also the recipient of the Audience Choice Award for the “Common Roots” exhibit at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden and twice won Best in Category for the prestigious “International Juried Photography Competitions” at the Artists Haven Gallery in Ft.
Lauderdale, FL. Her photography has also been published online by the nationally distributed Parade Magazine.
Paula’s public art projects include “Tales of the Surfside Turtles” in the Town of Surfside, FL; Florida International University’s “FLOR 500” project which commemorated the State’s quincentennial in 2013 and the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU charitable Mask Project.
In addition, Paula has co-curated several local art shows, and has presented both her sculpture and photography at The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in North Miami and at the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach. She is the founder and director of ArtShare LLC creative arts group which offers fine art to private, corporate and public environments. Currently she serves as a member of the Creative Team of The Arts of St. Johns, a nonprofit community arts organization, and is on the Board of Directors of Life Is Art, a not-for-profit events-based arts organization. She is also a Pillar Member of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce.
