“And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher. And they entered in and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.”
Luke 24:2-4(King James Version)
-The Nativity Conspiracy
As we approach Easter, the third day in which Jesus rose from the dead, I am reminded that my Catholic upbringing led me on a path in search of Jesus Christ. Interesting passages such as Luke’s inspired me to write The Nativity Conspiracy. Men “ in shining garments” today would be associated more with astronauts or space travelers.
I am also reminded of a question that I have asked of clergy and theologians… What kind of a God would send his only begotten son to be savagely scourged, nailed and tortured on a cross and made to suffer the most painful of deaths? ….The standard answer, “so that our original sin may be forgiven.”
I find this rather odd that God, who is perfect, created us with a flaw then has to send down his son to be ridiculed, beaten, tortured, crucified and murdered in order for our, “original sin,” to be forgiven by the very God who created Adam and Eve in the first place.
Even if this were remotely true, wouldn’t God have the power and compassion to forgive our sins without the need to sacrifice his, “only begotten son?” And weren’t ancient sacrifices our way of somehow appeasing God for the purpose of a better harvest? I feel that somehow the dark ages are all a part of this mindset which many follow blindly to this day.
“When they heard the king, the departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the child was.”
Mathew 2:9 (King James Version)
-The Nativity Conspiracy
After publishing The Nativity Conspiracy, I began to receive ridicule and even threats from conservative factions within religious circles. They ask me, “How dare I question the “star” over the Nativity?.
How dare I question the Bible… the very word of God?!!!” I answer this by posing these questions: Wouldn’t you agree that the terminology or even concept of a plane, helicopter, balloon or U.F.O. did not exist at that point in time?
Wouldn’t you agree that, today, if we were to see an illuminating object which moves in the sky then hovers, we would call it a U.F.O.? Unfortunately, reasoning is not part of their make-up any more than it is with ISIS.
Their responses have been anger and yes, even more threats. After studying Jesus for most of my life, one thing I am certain of and that is…Jesus would not respond in this manner.
I believe it is imperative that we explore alternative scenarios of events which shape our frame of spiritual reference so that we may achieve true enlightenment.
