Damian Stephens is an artist contributing to the enhancement of the Coral Gables area in 2015. His works highlight a fusion of art and sculptural design.
On Apr. 18, from 7 to 11 p.m., guests will be able to attend the unveiling of “Hall Wonderers” an installation designed to accompany the remodeling at 2151 LeJeune Rd. in Coral Gables. The event also will feature additional works by Stephens, available for purchase upon inquiry.
The installation rests in the two-story lobby entrance, a complex wonder that can be seen from the street. Composing the geometric 3-D illusion, the walls are images with a light box in the back end. In the foreground, two mannequins explore side by side.
“The design was used because of the current space’s layout, accentuating my concept,” Stephens said. “It’s modeled after a shoe box panorama, with the subject in the foreground and the geometric pattern in the background creating an illusion.”
A member of the Miami-Dade entrepreneurial community, Stephens’ creations embody the magnetic and dynamic pulse of the Magic City. His work incorporates structures and landscapes both natural and constructed, with sculptures and other freestanding pieces constructed from repurposed material.
Stephens is a creator, inventor, and an artist from Connecticut who resides in Miami. He also is the owner of The Sweatshop, a unique gym and fitness training center located in Merrick Park that has been open since June 2011.
