The Center for Writing and Literature at Miami Dade College (The Center @ MDC) is celebrating its 10th edition of the Miami Writers Institute, four days of intensive workshops led by authors and publishing experts, taking place May 6-9 at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, 300 NE Second Ave.
The Miami Writers Institute is one of The Center @ MDC’s most acclaimed programs, having served as a launching pad for several published writers. This year‘s program includes workshops in poetry, fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and publishing, among other specialties.
The Miami Writers Institute also offers readings by participating authors, publishing seminars with industry professionals and the opportunity to mingle and network at post-workshop happy hour events.
In addition to the workshops, aspiring writers can have their work reviewed by leading literary agent Andy Kifer in a one-on-one manuscript consultation. All registered participants also receive lunch daily and attend Lunchtime Reads by Writers Institute faculty. This year’s program will feature two happy hour events that are open free to the public: First Draft: A Literary Social at the new Books & Books Arsht Center location, followed by live music and a happy hour mingle at 180 degrees @the DRB.
