The Coral Gables Garden Club recently hosted the 38th annual Holiday Home and Garden Tour to celebrate the dream of Coral Gables founder George Merrick and display homes nestled in the heart of history.
Beautifully decorated homes were near historic Coral Gables locations bordering the Biltmore Hotel Golf Course and the historic Congregational Church across the street from the Biltmore. More than 600 guests toured the six beautifully decorated Christmas homes.
Members of the Garden Club created floral designs to decorate the homes. There were many compliments about the outstanding designs from the attendees.
The large crew included Jana White who served as chair with Charlotte Henderson as the co-chair. Additional committee members included Pat Crow, Judith Arthur, Damaris Gibb, Jessica Perkins, Kay Lores, Hilda Lawhorn, Jane Wilson, Liliana Porfiri, Martha Mensch, Andrea Stringos, Judi Welsh and Blanche Brownell.
Earnings from the home tour help fund the Garden Club projects that have made a significant impact on the enrichment of life in Coral Gables. The most recent donation of the Garden Club to the community is the Althea Merrick bonze monument in the garden at the Merrick House, the 100-year old historic home of the Merrick family on Coral Way.
Other beautification contributions to the City of Coral Gables include the statue of George Merrick in front of City Hall and the lovely entrances at Eighth Street and Ponce de Leon, Coral Way and Red Road, and Douglas Road and Miracle Mile.
