The Miami Football Festival returns to Tropical Park Stadium for its second season of football fun on Saturday, July 25.
The free community event is part of the Youth Sports Championship Series, an initiative of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez aimed at increasing participation in youth athletics. It also is Miami-Dade’s premiere celebration for Park and Recreation Month, showcasing the power of football to unite and improve lives. Activities run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature the “Mayor’s Cup Flag Football Tournament” for boys and girls, ages 14 and under. Hundreds of local youth are expected to be part of the exciting flag football action. There also will be football clinics, a kids’ activity area, mascot appearances, food truck vendors, and more.
The event kicks off with a special presentation by Mayor Gimenez and Miami-Dade Parks director Jack Kardys, recognizing past Youth Sports Championship winners and ambassadors and highlighting the park’s stadium and track renovations.
“Youth sporting events, such as the Mayor’s Cup Flag Football Tournament, provide opportunities for children to learn and compete in a sport, as well as enhance their self-esteem, social development and fitness level,” Mayor Gimenez said. “Good sportsmanship, teamwork, responsibility, and discipline, are the life lessons of sports that will stay with these young athletes into adulthood.”
