For the seventh consecutive year, Miami Dade College (MDC) has been named among the nation’s “Great Colleges to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a major higher education publication.
In addition, MDC again made the honor roll for recognition in multiple categories. The college is the only public higher education institution in South Florida named to the list, which has been published online at The Chronicle’s website.
“We are humbled and honored to once again receive this recognition. It truly speaks to the faculty and staff at MDC, who are second to none, who make this a great place to work and especially to learn for our students,” said MDC president Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón.
MDC was recognized in eight categories: collaborative governance; confidence in senior leadership; diversity; job satisfaction; professional/ career development programs; respect and appreciation; supervisor/department chair relationship, and teaching environment.
The Chronicle’s 2015 Great College’s to Work For program recognizes colleges for specific practices and policies. It has become one of the largest and most respected workplace- recognition programs in the country, serving as higher education’s version of the popular Fortune magazine survey.
The program recognizes select groups of colleges for specific best practices and policies, such as tenure clarity, collaborative governance, work/life balance, teaching environment, security, compensation and benefits, and others.
A major part of the process consisted of a survey completed by a random sample of full-time and adjunct faculty members, administrators, and professional support staff at each institution. In fact, the primary factor in deciding whether an institution was selected was the employee feedback. The program also is designed to help colleges improve as workplaces through the individual reports they receive.
To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle turned to ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.
Other major institutions honored alongside MDC include Duke, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.
