Routinely arriving for work early every day, his diligent efforts helped alleviate “the enormous amount of calls holding” of those telephoned daily to the district headquarters. Named Officer of the Month for June, he was commended additionally for a high level of arrests made during April.
On June 24, Officer Omar Vazquez received a July citation for his quick action and alertness in responding to an attempted burglary at Popeye’s Chicken, 11205 SW 152 St. With the assistance of three other officers, Vazquez set a perimeter before entering an open drive-in window and corralling a male suspect armed with a knife, hiding in a restaurant restroom.
“These actions are a credit to MDPD and the community,” noted Barry White, CAC chair, in making the awards.
