Candidates, campaign workers and politically active citizens involved in local elections are encouraged to attend the “Clean Campaign Class,” sponsored by the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust, on Thursday, Apr. 7, 6:30 p.m., in Palmetto Bay Village Hall, 9705 E. Hibiscus St.
With important votes scheduled in numerous Miami-Dade municipalities during 2016, as well as district, judicial and county-wide posts, now is the time to learn the ins and outs of running for office. All those involved and everyone interested in the process can learn how to properly open and manage financial accounts and run ethical campaigns.
The two-hour seminar, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., will feature representatives from the Ethics Commission and the Elections Department who will provide essential information to avoid legal pitfalls, correctly raise and report funds, properly keep records and understand the legal and ethical obligations of seeking public office.
The class is open free to the public. Attorneys can earn Continuing Legal Education credits from the Florida Bar.
For more information or to reserve a seat, call Robert Thompson at 305-350-0630 or send email to robthom@miamidade.gov.
The Ethics Commission was created in 1996 as an independent agency with advisory and quasi-judicial powers. It is composed of five members, serving staggered terms of four years each. Through a program of education and outreach, the commission seeks to empower the community and bolster public trust.
