A multidisciplinary steampunk-themed event will be held at Cauley Square, located at 22400 Old Dixie Highway in Miami, Florida on April 3rd, 2016 from 2 to 10PM. “Rivet Nation” is FREE for attendees and will feature a variety of attractions, including a juried art exhibit, short film screenings by the Miami Science Fiction Film Festival, cosplayers and live music from local standouts Raker, Graet Outdoors and DJ Demi.
Visitors will be able to shop from multiple vendors and even enjoy high tea in an authentic, Victorian-inspired tearoom (reservations required through the Tea Room Cauley Square.) “Rivet Nation” is the result of a partnership between two South Florida artists with studios at Cauley Square, Nadia Desjardins and Sheri Friedman.
“The steampunk aesthetic has become wildly popular over the past few years,” said event co-organizer Nadia Desjardins. “There are well-attended events inspired by this movement that take place regularly in many places around the world.”
Asked how the idea of “steampunk” could be described to someone unfamiliar with the genre, co-organizer Sheri Friedman alludes to some specific cultural reference points.
“When I think of steampunk I think of early science fiction writing: time travel, airships, lots of cogs and gears and, of course, steam,” said Friedman. “It’s what the world would look like today if the 19th Century vision of what the future would look like had prevailed: Victorian style meets steam-powered futuristic technology.”
Artists are welcome to submit their steampunk-themed pieces to be considered for the “Rivet Nation” juried art show. Pictures must be submitted to nadia@gallerycabin.com before March 13, 2016. Vendors of all types are welcome to offer their products for a $25 dollar fee ($10 additional dollars for power hookup.)

“We are really looking forward to an incredibly fun and colorful afternoon,” added Desjardins. “It will be wonderful to bring together so many different people who love this genre and who had never had a place or time to share this love with others.”
