Alea Delmastro wins big at the South Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

Riviera Preparatory School senior Alea Delmastro was awarded the top chemistry project among all high school students at the South Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair conducted recently at the Miami-Dade College North Campus.

Delmastro’s project, titled “The Effect of Carbon Nanodots on the Fibrillation of Human Insulin,” received a Superior Award, along with a gold medal. She also wasselected for two Special Area Awards — the Florida International University Biomedical Engineering Award (a monetary stipend), and the American Society of Materials (ASM) Education Foundation Award (a medallion and certificate for the most outstanding exhibit in Materials Science at the Fair).

Additionally, Delmastro was selected as one of the top 30 students among the 418 poster project participants at the Regional Science Fair to be a state fair finalist resulting in a trip to Lakeland at the end of March for the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair competition.
